Picture the scene – in Technicolor: a casino on the Riviera, on a balmy mid-‘60s evening. The sharply-dressed stranger nonchalantly fishes a Dunhill lighter out of his left jacket pocket and lights his cigarette.

Nissan Cedric.” The whole casino erupts in hysterics.
